I bought these Earbuds for my husband to use with a new iPod Touch we gave him for his birthday. He loved the iPod but HATED the earbuds that came with it. He had a hard time fitting those into his ear and still maintaining maximum sound. The earbuds fell out of his ears when he was walking or doing things around the house. He was frustrated with the entire situation.

I wasn't sure exactly what this product would be like or if it would work when I ordered it, so I awaited their delivery a little anxiously. Once they arrived and my husband tried them, he was immediately hooked. Now I can't get him to take them out of his ears! He is listening to music, watching videos, etc., nearly constantly. He told me it was easy to fit the pieces that customized them to his ear. In addition, he has some degree of hearing loss and he told me that these earbuds gave him full, rich sound that was amazing. I listened myself and am very impressed. Much, much better than the standard earbuds... Read more

For the price of these headphones you really can't go wrong. I purchased this product to replace the crappy set that came with the iPod. I still find it strange the iPod comes with such cheap and weak-sounding headgear when you can get 5x the sound for around $10. As long as you keep in mind these are *not* high-end speakers you should be very pleased with this product. These earbuds are comfortable and do a decent job blocking out some of the ambient noise. Also keep in mind these are *not* noise-cancelling, but the in-ear nature of these earplugs will help to some degree. The package comes with 3 additional sets of rubber cups (small / medium / large) that you can place over the speaker prong. For me, the medium size fits best - and may be the size that came installed. With these interchangeable pads you can find the right pair that's best suited for noise reduction and comfort.

As with any headphones of this type, you will need to fiddle around to get the optimal... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars For the price a great buy...just not for heavy bass music, September 17, 2010

Let me just say that for the price they are great. They have the multiple tips that you could change out for a better fit...the new angle they use fit very well...the sound and noise cancelling I thought worked very well. My only complaint would be that the bass is not very heavily felt when listening to bass heavy music...but most earbuds I've used have the same issues...or if on other sets the bass does come through its distorted anyway. I'd give these a solid 90% overall...

Product Description

The new JVC HA-NC250 combines outstanding sound quality with advanced noise-canceling and isolation technologies to provide a superior listening experience. The HA-NC250's noise cancellation circuitry includes feedback technology that constantly monitors the noise cancellation process. As a result, the headphones eliminate up to 85 percent of extraneous background noise. To further block noise, the HA-NC250 offers two JVC innovations that help isolate the listener from outside sounds. First, each earpiece employs a double housing structure for an extra sound insulation layer. Second, JVC developed a new technique for attaching the headphone's smooth memory foam cushioned ear pads to the housing that helps isolate background noise. The smooth pads also enhance comfort. These sound isolation features, for which patents have been applied, are especially important since the HA-NC250 can be used with the active noise cancellation switched off. For the best possible sound quality, the new headphone uses a 40mm neodymium driver in each earpiece. For comfort and portability, the HA-NC250 is one of the lightest headphones in its class, weighing just 5.3 ounces. It folds flat, and when folded is slimmer than most competing models. Included with the HA-NC250 are a slim carrying case, a four-foot detachable cord, airline dual plug adapter, and ¼-inch plug adapter for use with many home audio and video components. The headphones use a single 1.5-volt AAA battery for powering the noise cancellation circuitry. Battery life is rated at about 50 hours.

I travel fairly frequently on work and the long international flights were getting to me. I'd originally bought a Solitude Plane Quiet II headset which I was fairly happy with except for:
1. Quite tight around the head, difficult to wear for long periods of time.
2. Good sound quality, particularly bass, but an annoying hiss and missing treble and highs during audio playback.
3. Fairly heavy owing to needing 2 AAA batteries.

A colleague at work bought the JVCs and we did a comparison. Initially I was skeptical because my Solitudes were around the ear vs the JVCs which are over the ear. We went into a very noisy server room to do the test and I have to say the performance of the JVCs was astoundingly good.
All three issues that I had with the Solitudes were absent.
1. Extremely comfortable and light. Great build quality.
2. Even better noise canceling performance despite the over the ear design. Even with the active noise cancellation off,... Read more

I recently purchased the JVC HANC250 headphones after researching the options on the internet. The Bose were an obvious option, but the price could not be justified.

I have always been thinking about buying noise cancelling headphones, and with a pending trip to Australia (from New York) I decided that now was the time.

Pros:
Great sound quality
Excellent Noise Cancelling
Very comfortable
Long battery life (changed the battery 2X over a 48hr use period)
Nice looking
Excellent value

Cons:
Changing the battery under the ear cup is not the best design, but not that hard to do either

Tips:
1. Keep a couple extra batteries in the accessory pouch inside the headphone case
2. Put a business card in the same pouch in case of loss

UPDATE: Feb, 2009

After owning the JVC HANC250 for a year they are still the best headset I have ever owned. I travel by plane almost every week, and they... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Amazing noise blocking, but lots of small problems, October 11, 2008
By

This review is from: JVC HANC250 Noise Cancelling Headphones - Black (Electronics)
I work in a noisy lab, so I wanted noise canceling headphones that could reduce the distraction of nearby chatter as well as the usual airplane engine sounds. After a bit of searching, it seemed like these JVCs and the Panasonic RP-HC500 were the best all around choices. So I bought both pairs and borrowed a friend's Bose QC2's to do a comparison.

*Noise Cancelling:
Although I did not have as much time with the Bose, I was able to use all three pairs to listen to city street noise outside my building as well as co-worker chatter in my office.
Although all three pairs did a fantastic job of removing the low frequencies (the ventilation system hum, etc.), the Bose really excelled here. It's really true that speaking while wearing them let's you hear your voice absent its lowest octave! The JVC and Panasonic pairs could not quite compete in that sense.
But for blocking higher frequency sounds, the JVCs were the winners. With the noise cancellation turned... Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Cable wears out quickly, September 18, 2009
By
whatever (san jose, ca) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ultimate Ears TripleFi 10 Noise Isolating Earphones (Electronics)
I use these on my commute- <2 hours a day and treat them gingerly, like the expensive, easily breakable items they are.

I'm now going on my 2nd pair and 3rd cable set.

In about 3-4 months you'll notice that one of your channels has lost all or most of its volume.

Then when you continue to use it, you'll notice that the sound completely cuts out between steps as you're walking.

Eventually, nothing brings the sound back and you pay $20 for a new cord. Disconnecting and then reconnecting the cable to the buds will not do anything.

The problem is that the area where the jack transitions to the cord (the strain-releaf) is VERY WEAK and eventually the wire breaks inside. On my next cable (currently awaiting its arrival), I'll use some heat-shrink in that area to try and bolster it, but for $400, why am I engineering a fix?

I also have a coworker whose first pair broke where the bud meets the shapeable wire that goes over... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Best earphone i've ever owned, October 6, 2009
By
This review is from: Ultimate Ears TripleFi 10 Noise Isolating Earphones (Electronics)
First, let me mention that i've tried earphones out in the past and found them to be extremely uncomfortable in most cases. The Bose earphones are comfortable, but they don't go very far in your ear. The Shure E3C didn't sound good and they hurt so much they were unusable. After that experience I skipped out on earphones for a long time.

For the past few years i've been trying and using many different headphones. My favorite of the last year has been the AKG 701. They're huge and really need a good headphone amp. Don't laugh, but my main source of audio is an ipod touch using a headphone amp and Lossless audio. WAV format or Apple Lossless. If it's MP3, it's 320kbps.

I wanted to downsize my setup a bit for some uses, so I needed something smaller that could work well without a headphone amp.

Did maybe two days of research and found these and was shocked at how many good reviews on Amazon there was for these (the old listing). That's not very common... Read more

I think these are as great as the other reviews are saying, so I won't wax on with more glowing remarks about the incredible sound quality, the comfort, the ability to block noise, the changeable tip for the buds or all the other things great about them (though all of those things are true).

I do have a tip for the frugal though: if you're looking at the vi model (the one for iPhones), compare the price to the non-iPhone version. The two versions are identical except for the cord so you can save some bucks by buying the regular version and then buying a replacement cord for the iPhone version for about $30 from Logitech's store (Logitech bought the company that makes these). Swap in the vi's cord and your regular ones become the vi model!
